Biking, kayaking and boating are all great ways to explore beautiful Tybee Island! Tybee also has a long history of involvement in America's coastal welfare and naval defense, so be sure to check out the famed Tybee Island Lighthouse and historic sites.
» TIP: If you're a golf or tennis enthusiast, Tybee may not best sea island for you as there are no golf courses on Tybee Island and limited tennis options. If you're set on golfing on your vacation, you can either a golf course in nearby Savannah, or try any of the other Sea Islands, especially Kiawah Island, Hilton Head Island, or Jekyll Island.
Tybee Island Biking
Explore the island on your own as you ride along the hard-packed sandy beaches. Be sure to ask for a map of the bike trails on the island from the bike shop.
Tim's Beach Gear: Rent bikes, including 'Tug-a-Bug' bike trailers, as well as beach gear including umbrellas, coolers, chairs, and bocce. Baby gear also available for rent, including jogging strollers, cribs, and more.
» IMPORTANT TIP: Keep the bike shop's number with you as you ride. If you get a flat or need a repair while you're out, most places will come to you to fix it or bring you back to the shop. Check with the shop you choose when you rent to make sure they provide this service. You may not need it, but if you do, it can save your whole day!
Tybee Island Kayaking
Explore Tybee's coastal habitat and natural wildlife up close as you traverse the island's marshes and estuaries.
North Island Kayak: Offers tours the island, marshes and local attractions, including a trip to Cockspur Beacon where you can climb to the top and enjoy the view. They also offer surf lessons and rent paddle boards.
Sea Kayak Georgia: Offers tours, including day paddles and trips down the Georgia coast, instruction, and rough water kayaking.
Boat Tours & Excursions
Atlantic bottlenose dolphins live and play in the waters around the sea islands. Several tour operators on Tybee Island will take you out to see them while you discover the island's waterways or just relax on a sunset cruise.

Historical & Cultural Attractions
Tybee Island attractions offer a glimpse into the area's historic naval and militaristic significance. These monuments are popular draws for visitors looking to explore and learn about Tybee's history.
Cockspur Lighthouse: Located on nearby Cockspur Island, the Lighthouse, considered part of Fort Pulaski, is accessible by small boat or kayak and is included as a stop on some Tybee Island kayak tours. At high tide, water submerges the island on which it stands, giving the lighthouse the eerie appearance of floating in the water.
Fort Pulaski: Located off US 80 on nearby Cockspur Island, Fort Pulaski is a well-preserved example of 19th century military architecture. Constructed between 1829 and 1847 to defend Savannah, it was eventually used by confederate troops during the Civil War and fell to the Union in 1862.
Fort Screven: Built beginning in 1855, Fort Screven was an integral part of America's Coastal Defense system 1897 to 1947. Today, visitors can explore this historic military establishment and the views it offers from the north end of Tybee Island.
Marine Science Center: Enjoy the exhibits, touchtank, classes and programs, including marsh treks and turtle talks, designed to teach visitors of all ages about the local environment and wildlife, including the sea turtles which nest along the Sea Islands' beaches. A "Sea Camp" is also available.
Tybee Island Lighthouse: Built in 1773, the Tybee Island Lighthouse is Georgia's oldest and tallest lighthouse. It's been beautifully and authentically restored and remains one of the most complete lighthouse in America, sitting on 5 acres with nearly all of its support buildings intact. Still in use today, its beam of light can be seen 18 miles out to sea. Visitors are allowed to climb the 178 steps to see the spectacular view from the top. The Tybee Museum is also onsite.
Tybee Museum: The museum, situated at the base of the Tybee Island Lighthouse, houses artifacts and exhibits that chronicle Tybee Island's 400 year history.
Kids Activities
Kids of all ages can play and learn on Tybee Island. Here are a few activities for younger visitors:
Island Miniature Golf & Games: Located just off Tybee Island on Highway 80, this spot offers mini-putt, bumper go-carts, a moon bounce, and an arcade for the kids.
