Whether you’re looking for a full-time home, a vacation villa, or an investment property – you’ll find it among the homes for sale in Charleston SC. Charleston neighborhoods range from laid-back surf towns, to lavish island estates, to the historic alleys of downtown. This especially true in Charleston as the City lies on a Peninsula so land is limited and some homes have significant historic value.
Check out a few of these different neighborhoods to decide where you belong in the Charleston area:
The Charleston peninsula is known for its historic homes, grand mansions, and lush, hidden gardens. In recent years through, new neighborhoods and condominiums have cropped up on the Peninsula bringing a modern flair to the historic downtown area.
Just across the Cooper River, many young professionals and young families are settling in neighborhoods throughout Mount Pleasant where the public schools are the best in the area and major employers like Benefit Focus and Blackbaud have their headquarters. Included here is Daniel Island, a new development set up like a quaint, small-town where neighborhoods offer everything from southern-style cottages to stunning ocean-front mansions.
The exclusive Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms are located near Mount Pleasant yet still close to downtown. Grand homes on or just off the beach are the order of the day on these upscale islands.
Cross the Ashley River from downtown and you'll find James Island, an older community far less planned and manicured than Mount Pleasant, but that suits the tastes of many. Here the eclectic surf town of Folly Beach offers residents a laid-back beach community while across James Island, new housing developments offer stunning homes at reasonable prices.
Just past James Island is John’s Island which is also less developed but new neighborhoods and planned communities are slowly popping up.
Adjacent to John’s Island is the exclusive neighborhood of Kiawah Island where residents enjoy life on this quiet resort island.
West Ashley lies west of downtown Charleston and is bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway and the Ashley River. This area contains several new communities with large, reasonably priced homes.
