Discover Jekyll Island Georgia
Jekyll Island Georgia offers an escape to another time where luxury, natural beauty, and history meld wonderfully together on the smallest of the barrier islands.
Virtually the entire island is a state park owned by the State of Georgia. By law, Georgia has limited development on the island and therefore, most of it is, and will always remain, a pristine, natural preserve for the indigenous flora and fauna.
While a few hotels and a new resort provide new Jykell Island lodging options, the original gem of this Island is the famed Jekyll Island Club Hotel. With over 100 years of history during it which it played host to some of America's most notable families, this elegant hotel sets the scene for a romantic trip through time to a slower and gentler era. For those looking to get closer to nature, the popular Jekyll Island campground is yet another way to visit the Island.

- Ride by bike through the Live Oaks draped in Spanish moss,
- Stroll along the sand searching for shells,
- Horseback ride down the beach,
- Hit the links, and
- Discover the playground of America's wealthiest families in the early twentieth century!
Jekyll boasts a long tradition of golfing and offers three large public golf courses. While tennis and boating enthusiasts are likewise provided for, the Island offers a few unique attractions including the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, a historic district, and quaint shops.
Your vacation on the Island promises relaxation, Lowcountry beauty, and historic elegance on this sea-side retreat. If you're a romantic, a nature-lover, or a family with young children, this is the right vacation spot for you!
Like the other barrier islands, the Jekyll Island beach consists of hard-packed sand - great for biking and for toddlers who would have difficulty walking in deep, loose sand.
Unlike Kiawah Island, though, where the East-to-West orientation of the beach results in minimal shells washing up onto the sand, the beach on Jekyll is ripe for shell collecting – just make sure to leave any living sea creatures (like hermit crabs and sand dollars) where they lie!
» TIP: Before setting out for the beach, check the tide by asking someone at your hotel or referring to the tide tables. High tide usually occurs overnight, but can linger into the mornings. It's a good idea to check before you set out with arms full of beach equipment and find more water than sand.
Rarely crowded, the beach is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the island.
